What we cover — and what we don't

We could claim to cover everything. We don't. Here is an honest account of where CapablyUs adds genuine value, where it adds partial value, and where it will tell you to stop and call someone qualified.

Where we are strongest

  • Large domestic appliances: washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, fridges, freezers, ovens, hobs (electric and induction)
  • Small domestic appliances: kettles, toasters, coffee machines, vacuum cleaners, irons, food processors
  • Audio and video equipment: amplifiers, speakers, turntables, older televisions, radios
  • Garden equipment: electric and petrol lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, pressure washers
  • Power tools: drills, sanders, jigsaws, circular saws
  • Printers: we help diagnose whether repair is viable — often the most useful answer is that it isn't

Where we add partial value

  • Modern smart appliances with closed software ecosystems: we diagnose but manufacturers often prevent repair. We say so honestly.
  • Older appliances with scarce parts: we diagnose and advise, but flag when parts availability makes repair impractical.

Where we stop and redirect

Gas appliances: we explain what is likely wrong, but give no DIY repair guidance. Gas repair requires certification. We direct you to a qualified engineer.

Microwave ovens (internal electrical): a capacitor can hold lethal charge after unplugging. Mechanical issues only.

Repair cost exceeds replacement cost: we tell you that directly, with our reasoning.

We believe the most useful thing we can do is tell you the truth — including when the truth is "this is not a safe DIY repair" or "this appliance is not worth fixing." A tool that tells you what you want to hear is not useful. A tool that tells you what you need to know is.
